2026 Global Game Jam: Mask Blaster

Overview

Single arena PvE arena FPS game where you wake up and are a wielder of 4 masks

The goal of the game is to last the longest against one enemy type that can instantly kill you in one hit. When the player dies, the game is over, and time is recorded. The player's goal is to improve their abilities and last longer each playthrough. 

Gameplay

This game is a PvE arena game where you run, jump, and eliminate enemies. The longer you last and the more enemies you eliminate, the higher the score you earn. 

Taking some inspiration from games like Ghostrunner. The game ends when the player gets hit by an enemy once, not twice or 3 times, once. At the end, the player will see their score and will be able to choose to quit the game or retry. 

There will be one enemy type in this game. This enemy is basic, as in it will move around the player and continuously shoot range projectiles that the player must avoid. Numbers will be involved, where more and more enemies will spawn as the run continues, making it harder for the player to manage.

Weapons will be the prime focus; players will need to combo 4 weapons to crank as much damage as they can. Weapons will tie into a bar that will fill up over time when they are not shooting. When the player uses ammo from these weapons, the meter goes down, and they will not be able to shoot till the meter fills. If players blast their ammo without care and instantly lose all matter, they will need to wait. If the player carefully manages resources and does not fire all ammo rapidly in one sitting, they will avoid the penalty and continuously fire weapons.
